The service provides a more detailed approach, explaining on the ground how green spaces are set up (design, creation) and then how they are managed (making the spaces permanent). Lectures are given in a familiar garden near the school.

Description of a gardener's work
Garden maintenance, what needs to be done and the life of the garden through the seasons
Maintenance techniques
Equipment used
Seeds, fertilisers
How does the gardener see his green space? What does he expect of the public?
Respecting plantations and the garden in general.

Luc Guihard
An approved regional nature conservation association, also approved by the National Education authorities which manages a network of nature reserves in Brittany and also undertakes environmental education actions.

We suggest that pairs of sites are compared to establish which animals are present or not to give the children the opportunity of improving their space and enriching it, taking these points into consideration. Emphasis will also be placed on the interrelationships created between living creatures.

Sophie Lautrette

The Conservatoire Botanique National de Brest was created in 1975 and was the first garden in the world dedicated solely to saving plants in danger of extinction. It has one of the world's largest collections of threatened plant species from Brittany, France, Europe and islands throughout the world.
Based on this undertaking, in 1988 the French Environment Ministry decided to set up a network of national botanical conservatories. Each Conservatoire Botanique is responsible for protecting flora, managing the natural open spaces within its region and informing the general public.

The Conservatoire Botanique undertakes to initiate pupils taking part in the project into the biology of trees and shrubs, how to identify local trees, the history of trees originating from distant countries and in helping them to invent imaginary trees.

Anthony Auffret
The Petits Débrouillards Association was founded in Quebec and was expanded by organisers, guides, and scientific and educational research workers. In Brest, it offers children aged 3 to 12 years old the opportunity to discover science and technology by means of simple, amusing experiments they can do themselves.
It now has branches in 17 countries.

We offer a choice of three subjects:

  Dissemination and colonisation:
        How do plants reproduce?
        How do they move?

        Plant ecology
What plants are found on tracks and in woodland?
Which plants co-exist peacefully and which are in
        competition?

        Nutrition and photosynthesis
How does a plant get its nourishment?
Why is the sun important for plants?

Gaëlle Keroullé
Graduate of the Brest Fine arts school, in charge of cultural projects.

In this project, the artistic approach, which goes hand in hand with the scientific approach, allows the children to combine the various specialist lessons.
Gaëlle Keroulle here helps the children to design their projects and make them take shape, working on the basic structure rather than on the form.

Helping with the design of individual spaces, preliminary drawings, cut-out shapes
Making the basic structure of the model.
Helping discussion during group work and assembling the features.
Monitoring the garden plan.

Eric Le Berre
Approved by the National Education authorities and Youth and Sport, CISTEM aims to promote interest in and the practice of scientific and technological activities among young people in a practical and experimental way.

Our aim in this project is to enable the children to discover the main forms of energy present in a garden, to classify the energy as natural or artificial energy and to define the basic concept of confirmation of energy.
