Our country, Burkina Faso, is located in the heart of Western Africa, it is a landlocked country. Its capital city is Ouagadougou.

Saponé is a small Burkina Faso town at approximately 40 kilometres south of the capital.

We live in a region of savannah, characterised by a vegetation of high grasses. The climate is tropical : two seasons per year
A rainy season from June to September.
A dry season from October to May (cold from December to February, hot from March to May)

Streams are rare, however, there is a dam in Koagma around which many activities have developed. This dam gathers a lot of crocodiles too.

The ground in Saponé is not too bumpy. A few hills here, plateaux there. The prefecture is located on a plateau. There are several kinds of trees in the bush : shea trees, baobabs, tamarind trees, néré, fig trees. But in town, fruit trees are numerous ! Mango trees, guavas, lemon trees, papaw trees and eucalyptus groves.

The wild animals living in our bushes are the doe, the hare, the partridge, the wart hog, the monkey, the hedgehog.

Saponé is a county town of 1000 inhabitants. The population is mostly composed of farmers and stockbreeders. Our parents cultivate millet, rice, maize, beans, sesame, groundnuts.
They breed sheep, goats, oxen, poultry. They are craftsmen too : blacksmiths, winnowers, potters, weavers.

Our houses can be very different : round huts, or rectangular houses.

In Saponé there are facilities : schools, 2 high schools, the prefecture, a health centre, a church, a mosque, a temple, the police headquarters.

A big outdoor market is held every 3 day. Saponé is famous for its broad-brimmed hats.

Our school is called Saponé centre A. It is one of the 2 schools -with 6 classes each- in the town. It consists of 2 buildings facing each other, composed of 3 classes each, and the total number of pupils reaches 423.

In our large schoolyard there are 2 masters' lodgings, a playground,a canteen, the lavatories, a broad well, the bell hanging at a tree and  the flagpole.
