The historic city of Plymouth - inextricably linked with the sea and the Royal Navy - sits between the mouths of two rivers, the Plym and the Tamar.

Modern Plymouth occupies almost twice the acreage of its pre-war incarnation. Consequently, although the centre of city is very modern, there are many old
buildings within the city boundaries.

Plymouth has in the past long looked to the Government for its prosperity.
Today, similarly to Brest in France, with the Dockyard greatly reduced, the surface
fleet much smaller, the Marines and the Army on the move and the RAF presence gone, the economic picture of Plymouth is quite different and it is a city in
great need of support.
